Sandy Eldred is an internationally acclaimed bassist, improviser, recording artist, jazz composer, and music educator from Atlantic City, NJ, currently living in Philadelphia, PA. Eldred is an in-demand player known for his inventiveness and command across music genres. Doubling on both upright and electric bass, Eldred has worked with musicians, studios, and record labels across North America and Europe.
Eldred is a member of notable large ensembles on the east coast including, Norman David and the Eleventet, Jamal Jones’ Bureau of Sonic Wonderland, Ian O’Beirne’s Slowbern, and the Earl Phillips Big Band. He has also performed with the South Philly Big Band, the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra, Matt Gallagher’s Philly Big Band, and Bobby Zankel and the Warriors of the Wonderful Sound featuring Muhal Richard Abrams. Eldred is a member of small groups: U.S.E. (Urbina, Scarano, Eldred), Many Mansions, the Bogdan Gumenyuk Quintet, Mars Apes, Buzz (Talk), and the Sandy Eldred Trio.
Eldred received a Masters Degree in Double Bass Performance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. As an educator, he currently offers private in-person and/or Skype lessons, and is available for on-site masterclasses and workshops. Eldred has taught students at the university level in the United States, Canada, and Eastern Europe.
